Stress is everywhere. And with the fast-paced life that people live nowadays, stress has been a huge part of everyone's life. In fact, people are so used to it that they treat it as a normal daily occurrence. This is not normal at all. Stress, when not managed properly, can lead to all kinds of health problems, primary of which is heart problems. This is especially true with people who have had family history of heart problems.

It is not true that creative juices only come out in cramming times. It only comes out during those times because we are forced to think. And with enough willpower, we can certainly think of creative concepts without stressing ourselves for lack of time. Starting early on your projects will also mean that you don't have to hurry when you are working on the project. You can take your time and really think about what you are planning to do with your project. This will not only prevent you from getting stressed out but also allow you to create a more effective and complete project.

3. Live a healthy lifestyle

Stress levels will rarely affect you when you are prepared for it, health-wise. You see, when your body is healthy and is full of energy, you are more or less protected from the effects of stress such as lowering of energy levels, nervous breakdown and sometimes, even heart disease. This can only be done by living healthy through eating the right kinds of food, getting enough sleep each night and taking the time to relax.

4. Take a break from your normal life.

If you feel that you are already nearing your breaking point, don't be a martyr. Take a break and get out of town or take a short vacation. This will do you a lot of good as it will help you recharge and de-stress yourself. If you are too busy, don't postpone it just drop everything and take care of yourself. Not doing so will only make the stress fester inside until you become too stressed out to even be productive.

This is the reason why employers give vacation leave so that people can take a full day of rest or a couple of days of rest to regain their former energy levels and creative selves.

When you practice simple yoga for breathing known as pranayam, you let air in and out at a steady pace. Nadi shodhanam is one yogic breathing posture where you sit cross legged on the floor with an upright back.

Take left hand palm and curl your fingers to the centre leaving your thumb and little finger straightened out. Press the thumb to your left nostril and breathe in from your right nostril, then hold your right nostril with the little finger and release the air through your left nostril. This simple alternating breathing exercise allows air to pass through your nerve channels releasing all your tensed muscles.

When you breathe normally, you think normally and when you breathe well your body is happy and so is your mind. Enroll yourself to many of the yoga classes if you are a beginner as you need to know the right posture and style of exercise.

Sometimes when you get stressed some of your body organs too get tightened and do not function as required due to the pressure you are putting on it leading to sickness and pain. Hence yoga practiced everyday for atleast half an hour helps in regulating your body metabolism and breathing. Your concentration increases and the focus. You will be able to deliver more and be more productive than you ever think and even multi-task which is the need of today’s world.

Once you master the breathing exercises get to the next step of asanas, there are pure exercises that help functioning of your organs. These exercises if practiced everyday go a long way in helping you enjoy the good life as it lasts for years and years. Positive mental health is a great way to ensure you lead a long, happy and healthy life. Maintaining your mental health is easier than most people think and will have a significant impact on your everyday life.

Would you like to have more energy? What about a good night sleep? How you would like to go an entire year without catching the flu once? Achieving a positive mental health state will not guarantee these things, but it sure will help.

Here are the top 5 things you can do to help promote positive mental health in you and your children:

1. Eat Healthy. Eating fast food 3 times a week and downing a few cold ones before bed might be easier than making a home-cooked meal and more enjoyable than drinking a cold glass of water but it won’t do a whole lot for your health. Eating home-cooked foods (especially fruits and vegetables) and staying away from the fast food joints will help you achieve the healthy lifestyle you desire.

2. Drink Lots of Water. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, average individuals are expected to consume at least eight glasses of water a day. And while this seems like it may be a lot, it’s actually not. Eight glasses is almost equivalent to filling up your water bottle a few times between waking up and going to bed. Remember, if you work out, you will need to increase your water intake to compensate for the water you’re burning off while exercising. Drinking water will detoxify your body and restore it back to a healthy state – especially after drinking coffee or alcoholic beverages.

3. Kick the Bad Habits. We’ve already mentioned it a few times but eliminating significant alcohol intake will have positive results on your mental health. Likewise, kicking other bad habits like smoking and drinking considerable amounts of coffee will also help keep your mental health at its best.

4. De-Stress. Stress is one of the leading causes for poor mental health. When you’re stressed out, your body has to work harder to keep up and, overtime, it will take its toll on your body and your brain. Next time something stressful happens, try lighting some candles and taking a bath. If that doesn’t work for you, try letting off some steam by going to the gym or going for a run. Keeping a positive frame of mind will promote positive mental health and eliminate undue stress on your brain.

5. Book Regular Check-ups. Unfortunately, you can do all of the things listed above and still suffer from mental health problems. In fact, you might have a mental illness and not even know it. Make sure you’re mental health is in good condition by booking regular appointments with your doctor. He/she will be able to confirm whether you’re lifestyle is healthy or identify where you may need to make some changes.

Many people will shy away at the first mention of "mental health". While it is understandable that there may be certain connotations that people are uncomfortable with, it does not mean that they should forego any concern at all for their mental well being.


In fact, many Doctors suggest that a balance of mental and physical health is ideal for being able to enjoy life more fully.


In fact, the better one's mental health is, the better suited that person will be to deal with physical injury as well as faring better on a day-to-day basis.


People are not ashamed of looking out for their physical health. Many people actually brag about what great shape they are in physically.


However, when it comes to mental health, they think that any "exercise" automatically indicates some instability or mental disorder. Nothing could be further from the truth.


Many of the martial arts and Eastern exercises such as Yoga focus intensely on meditation in combination with the physical work out.


Exercising the mind is every bit as important as exercising the physical body. It will help you to become more aware of how your body reacts to different types of stress.


Once you learn how your body and mind control your physical, mental and even emotional reactions, it becomes easier to maintain a complete sense of self-control even when others around you may be panicking or unsure of what to do next.


Can you imagine someone walking up to an "umpteenth" level black belt and explaining to them that they have mental health issues simply because they regularly exercise their mental health as well as their physical health? It does sound rather ridiculous when you express the thought in such a manner.


Their mental exercises actually assist them greatly in their physical workouts. The added awareness these people have make them formidable in professional as well as social settings.


They often make much better leaders and negotiators simply due to the awareness that they possess. While some people may marvel at their "amazing" and often misunderstood skills, it is simply the result of exercise.


Mental health and more importantly, mental exercises should never be dismissed out of sheer ignorance, misplaced fears or any other misconceptions that prevent you from drastically improving every other aspect of your life as well.


Whether it is fifteen minutes of quiet time for simple meditation or a full on course in the increasingly popular Eastern arts with an emphasis on mental awareness, mental exercises should be every bit as important to you as physical exercise is.


To utterly dismiss the idea would be more detrimental to your overall health than a dozen donuts washed down with a gallon of milk and a plate of French fries on the side would be for your physical health. Talk about insanity? If that is not madness, I do not know what is
